Frequently Asked Questions

In-person worship service begins every Sunday at 9:00 a.m. and lasts about 1 ½ -2 hours.

 

There is no dress code.

 

Among other things, we practice social distancing and ask worshippers to wear facial masks.

A variety of music – from traditional hymns to praise and worship to contemporary gospel.

 

Yes, we also offer worship services on Facebook, YouTube, and on a local television station (WTXL Channel 27 ABC). However, we do encourage you to join other worshippers for the in-person service.

 

Although there is a nursery room designed to accommodate small children, use of the room during worship service has been suspended until further notice. This is another one of the precautions the church has implemented in response to COVID concerns.

 

Absolutely! Church School is held every Sunday from 10:30 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. in various locations of the church.  Separate classes are designed for children, young people, and adults and are all taught by dynamic teachers.

 

Bethel prioritizes the spiritual growth and Christian fellowship of young people through a strong, viable Youth Ministry that includes youth choirs, a youth usher board, Children’s Church, and other opportunities for youth to serve the body of Christ.

Yes. In addition to the beautiful sanctuary and administrative offices, the church complex is composed of the NZ Graham Chapel, choral room, computer room, classrooms, nursery, kitchen, and Fellowship Hall. Please contact the Church Office at 850-576-7501 for further information.

Bethel AME Church is located at 501 West Orange Avenue, Tallahassee, FL. It is within walking distance of Florida A & M University and is on the city’s bus transportation route.

MEMBERSHIP

Allen Temple AME Church joyfully invites every person who is led by the Holy Spirit to become a member of our family of believers.

Full Membership

  • If, during a worship service or church event, you feel called to publicly confess Christ as your Lord and Savior and commit your life to Him, you may respond to the Invitation to Christian Discipleship extended by the pastor. You will begin a nurturing and discipleship training period lasting three (3) months. Upon completing this training, and with the pastor’s recommendation and approval, you will be received as a full member of Allen Temple.
  • If you are a member of another local African Methodist Episcopal Church or a different Methodist denomination (such as AME Zion, United Methodist Church, or Church of the Nazarene), you may become a full member of Allen Temple by presenting a Certificate of Membership from your previous church.
  • If you are a member of a denomination outside of the Methodist tradition, you may join Allen Temple by completing a nurturing and discipleship training period. Upon the pastor’s recommendation and approval, you will receive full membership.

Preparatory Membership

All youth up to age 17 are under the care of the church until they transition to full membership.

Affiliated Membership

If you are a member of an AME Church temporarily residing in the Bessemer area, you may join Allen Temple as an Affiliate Member. This membership grants you all the privileges of full members, including pastoral oversight, participation in services, and the ability to hold church office.
